Summary

The brainchild of Congolese Musical-artist, DJ, and producer Alec Lomami, No Visa is a brand whose ethos is about creating genre-bending dance party experiences that transcend borders, race, ethnicity, and class. During his interview with the North Carolina radio platform WUNC Music, Alec stated on the record how he sees No Visa as a sort of cultural passport that acts as a conduit for the universal expression that is music.

No Visa kicked off its first round of parties in 2020 during the now and forever infamous global pandemic. Around those days, I was younger and much more eager to be on the dance scene but never found the time to attend a No Visa party. In all truthfulness, I'm not that much of a dancer. Even still, I watched No Visa's growth and movement from afar via one of my burner Instagram accounts. A few years flew by, and as fate would have it, I would eventually meet the man behind the madness, Alec Lomami. I met Alec in person during the summer of 2024 through a mutual friend I was working on a design project with. My friend referred me and my work to Alec. The rest is history. Since then, I have cultivated a strong working relationship with Alec and the No Visa crew and look forward to continue providing value in the future! While you scroll, you'll find examples of some of the work I created for the brand over the past year.

  • Travel references and the inclusion of differing languages were motifs already present before I established a relationship with the No Visa brand. These posters are a prime example of this. An international collaborative party between No Visa, TYO GQOM, and LoversOnly, held in Shibuya TYO

Not everything we make as designers hits the mark. Here's a great example of that. Although I like the funkiness proposed within these compositions, these designs didn't fit the story that the No Visa brand is trying to tell. The client could feel that as well. So, back to the drawing board, I went!
